Just as whales need the help of smaller fish to clean their teeth, so large corporates need the help of startups to improve their services. Aware of the strengths startups bring to the table, Orange, the telecommunications expert has launched its own accelerator. Silicon Luxembourg recorded a conversation between Juliette Malherbe, Orange Fab manager for Belgium and Luxembourg and Casius Morea, founder and CEO of EmailTree and graduate of Orange Fab’s accelerator.

How could Orange bring its technology to the air cargo industry? A new partnership agreement with Liege Airport to develop the internet of things and smart services was signed with Orange Belgium during the WeCargo. In practical terms, this means that Orange Belgium and Liege Airport will select together which cargo activities to study and for which technological solutions will be implemented. These case studies will serve the operators and businesses working at the airport. “We are delighted to work with Liege Airport in developing innovative solutions. The logistics sector presents many opportunities to make the most of our technological expertise concerning connected objects or track & trace solutions. We also welcome the possibility to help develop this economic activity hub, which is so important for the Liege region”, said Michaël Trabbia, CEO of Orange Belgium.

Afgelopen decennium verschenen er flink wat meer start-ups ten tonele. Dat betekent meer economische groei, maar ook veel concurrentie. Door de winner-takes-all dynamiek bij ondernemers en investeerders, geraakt de strijd om de toppositie onder druk. Ironisch gezien vereist dat weer gigantische investeringen, waardoor veel durfkapitalisten heel hoog valideren om de kroon te spannen. Hoe groot is de kans dat deze discrepantie tussen durfkapitaal en waarde leidt tot een nieuwe dotcombubbel? Naar aanleiding van hun aanwezigheid op The Big Score, sprak ik met investeerders Jurgen Ingels (Smartfin Capital) en Vincent Gregoir (Inven Capital) alsook met Michael Peeters, Director of Innovation bij OrangeFab, de accelerator van Orange.

This is a third success in a row for Orange Fab, the Orange international acceleration network, launched in 2017 in Belgium and Luxembourg. Overall, no less than 42 start-ups and scale-ups applied to take part, and on 20 June, 10 start-ups introduced their innovative products and services to a panel of judges including the Executive Committee of Orange Belgium and Pierre Hermant, CEO of finance.brussels. Condugo and Ovinto have been officially selected to take part in the third Orange Fab BeLux season. Aims: to foster excellence through mentorship between the start-ups and the Orange Belgium and Luxembourg Business Units, to boost their business development, to launch partnerships, and to further their international growth with the backing of the international presence of Orange.

Orange Fab, Orange’s exclusive international accelerator network, kicked off its second edition in Belgium and Luxembourg this September. 45 start-ups and scale-ups submitted an application to participate. On October 1st, 10 start-ups presented their innovative products and services to a jury of professionals. Chatlayer, iReachm and Thingsplay were selected to officially participate in this second season of Orange Fab BeLux. The main objectives are to create a commercial acceleration between the start-ups and the Business Units of Orange Belgium and Luxembourg, to build a win-win business partnership and to help the start-ups grow thanks to the Orange’s worldwide footprint.
